Lavender in My Latte is the first poetry collection written by young Bhutanese poet Suk Raj Darjee. It reads as if you are taking your time relaxing with a warm cup of coffee or tea, and its pleasantness comes from taking your time and reflecting on the moment and the warmth of each sip. The poetry gently beckons you to slow down and to observe some of the small marvels around us and to relish in those complex emotions that make us human. The collection has two parts; the first features poems about love, nature, memory and the mundane, and the second features a unique three-line style referred to as the English Saino. The book shows us that poetry does not have to be distant or difficult. Poetry can simply be heartfelt, human, and uncomplicated. His voice, though personal in some ways, has universal qualities stretching across cultures and experiences to relay to us something we have probably felt or have shared. Lavender in My Latte is not only a book of poems, it is an experience. And it is for those who love poetry, but it also welcomed those who have just started to read it. It is a collection that invites you to slow down, to breathe, and to see the world a little more gently, a little more thoughtfully, and with a little more love.
